My name is Amanda Cummings and I have worked for DeSoto County Schools for 19 years.  I spent nine years in the classroom, and this is my 10th year in the Library at DeSoto Central Primary. I graduated from Ole Miss.  I am married with three amazing children who are all avid readers.  My favorite thing to do in the whole wide world is to read, and I am not saying that because I am a librarian.  I need to read like I need air to breathe.

My mission is to teach children to love books and to have a passion for reading.  I believe the best way to grow readers is to teach them to choose books in a way all readers do -- choosing books that interest and engage them.

We are in unprecedented times right now. Things in this world seem a little crazy! Right now we are all trying our best to figure out how to keep our kiddos learning while we practice social distancing.  I know the teachers have been working diligently to prep lessons and activities to the grade level Facebook pages. And, my goodness! These pages are filled with amazing content.  I, too, have a Facebook and Twitter page -- DCPS Loves the Library. Please like and follow me on one or both of those platforms for the latest updates from the library.

What I want to do here, is give you a "one stop shop" for free resources to keep your kiddos reading and engaged during the next several weeks.
