About the Teacher/Welcome Msg

Hi, my name is Cathy Lewis.  I am a graduate of the University of Mississippi.  I have been teaching for 15 years and this is my eleventh year here at DeSoto Central.  I have enjoyed everyone simply because I love what I do.  I love teaching!

I am married to my husband J.J. for 37 years come October 30th.  We have two grown children Jessica and James.  At the moment we are enjoying the empty nest syndrome.  We have three wonderful grandchildren. A little girl named Everlea, 8, and a set of 5 year old twins, one boy, Mavrick, and one girl Brantlea.  Needless to say, they are the light of our life.  My son James was diagnosed with leukemia back in 2007 and has been in remission since 4 months after being diagnosed.   We are blessed every day with ALL our children.

I love to read books.  I promote reading as often as possible.

I am looking forward to the football season.  I am a HUGE fan of the Superbowl Champion Green Bay Packers.  My blood runs green and gold.

I look forward to being with and teaching your children.  They too are my blessings each and every day.  Thank you for entrusting them to me and all of us at DCPS.

Announcements

As the school year comes to an "official" end I wanted to sa;y how much I enjoyed having your son/daughter in my class. It saddened me to no end that we did not get to say proper goodbyes.  Love to all and I know you will make me proud in whatever your future entails.

All that being said I did want to let you know how important it is to do a little work during the summer to keep fresh and be ready for THIRD GRADE!!!!!  The district will be using iReady for each student.  They will be making assignments grade appropriate.  Please use!  Here is the information you need to login:

During this time please make sure your child is continuing academic skills.  I have listed some links for he/she to do just that.  I will update the assignments on the weekends starting next Saturday the 28th.  I will also update any information I receive as quickly as possible although you will probably hear most when I do.
